Hi. My name is Greg Stolze, this is my web page, and I write books.

YOU

This web page is for YOU.

I don’t want to sound too gnomic about YOU, though when I picked the title I should have anticipated certain difficulties. But as the trailer there says, it’s a demanding book. It wants to change you. It’s a book about what books do.

It’s also told in the second-person, directed at readers as if they’re the protagonist of a game, the main character in a movie, or as if they’re actual people living actual lives. There aren’t a lot of second-person narratives outside of Choose Your Own Adventure, and this one has no choice. It’s more like ‘Endure Your Own Adventure.’ The editor said the effect was like being brainwashed and I was flattered.

Whether you want to call it ‘magical realism’ or ‘urban fantasy’ or just plain weird, YOU is a novel that stretches between the commonplace and the extraordinary, blurring the lines between them. As its subject, you can expect to be beaten and despised, but also stood by loyally and forgiven for your faults. You lose love for someone you’ve known for years, while having love inflicted upon you for someone you only spoke to on the phone once. You get menaced and copied and confused. And although you only want to get to work and do a good job, you wind up influencing the shape of the cosmic future.

The Kickstarter for this novel is now live, so click that link to see me mumble and stammer my way through the pitch, and then you can pledge your support for it anyway! It’s going great so far, but some of the backer tiers are limited, so don’t delay.

I think you’ll enjoy the ride, but don’t take my word for it. I’ve put the first 28 pages as a preview, which you can read right now to decide if you’re interested.
