I wrote a science fiction game! It’s called Termination Shock and the premises upon which it’s built go something like this:
- In the future, there are haves and have-nots, and the haves exploit technology to keep that gap nice and wide
- The same technology gets out of hand and causes murderous robot insurgencies
- When aliens come to save humankind, they rescue the have-nots.
When I wrote it, it was gritty and harsh, and then I started the first ever playtest of it and the major influence my players cited was the sitcom Frasier.
It turned out to be exactly what Termination Shock needed.
So, if you want to listen to those first games, they’re now available for free on Spotify. They’re also free on Patreon, with the added benefit that, if you like what you hear, you can sign on to get a TON of stuff from the game as well as dozens of other episodes. (In Season Two, we started a new story with me as a player instead of a GM and it’s… really, tremendously fun.)
If, after listening, you want your own copy of the game, hey, we can do that too.
(NB: The season one podcasts used to be on Soundcloud, so there are probably dead links about that here and there. Soundcloud changed its terms of service to give themselves permission to feed users’ work into LLMs, while also insisting that they would never ever do it. I found this disingenuous and left.)
